Joëlle Metzger studied Health Sciences and Technology with a major in Human Movement Sciences at ETH Zurich. She obtained her Master's degree in 2022 after working in the Bareyre Lab at LMU Munich for her Master Thesis. During her Master Thesis she could gain first insights into SCI research working with dorsal hemisection models in mice. After finishing her Master's degree, Joëlle completed her studies for the teaching certificate in Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich.

In January 2023, Joëlle joined the sensory group of Dr. Michèle Hubli at the Spinal Cord Injury Center as a PhD student. Her research topic will be to establish pain-autonomic interaction as a surrogate marker for central sensitization in neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury. The goal is to better understand focal and widespread sensitization using pain-autonomic readouts, experimental pain-paradigms, quantitative sensory testing and pain drawings.
